It's Back in 2012 the Antibes Raft Race

The Antibes Raft Race is back after a 10-year gap since their memorable event in 2002 when they raised Euros 24,000 for the Antibes Lifeboat and other local charities.
Some 24 rafts built by the crews of the finest yachts in the World take to the water at Noon in the International Yacht Club d'Antibes / Port Vauban on the 21st April to compete along a triangular course for spectacular awards - and it's all the charity. A browse to the Raft Race website at www.raftrace.net will show the level of support for this event by all the major companies in Yachting.

1990 Raft racer Zelda Lunt - now Treasurer of the Antibes Raft Race Association and a Charter Fleet Manager with a major Riviera company - said "It's a once in a lifetime event, and I still remember how cold and wet it was. We won the award for 'Total Incompetence in Rafting' - a Golden Toilet Seat which hung in our offices for many years."

The Association President - Yacht Captain Gary Morton - was upbeat about his chances - "We have a fast raft this time, and expect to be a serious competitor for the famous 'Caramba Cup' which is traditionally awarded to the winning raft", he announced as he prepared for his sixth Raft Race, "The event brings the Yachting Industry together, is great fun, and is all for charity. A wonderful start to the Yachting season on the Riviera".

Money is raised by sponsorship from Yacht Owners and major companies in Yachting, and by the Evening Party - this year a "TITANIC" Theme Fancy Dress Party to commemorate the 100 years since the loss of the ship - at which a Raffle is held with prizes sponsored by local companies. In 2002, the Association raised Euros 24,000, and they hope to better that this year.
